Project Description

Hope’s Scholarship

The Hope Manning Memorial Scholarship was started in honor of Hope manning, a child that lost her life at age 5 as a result of child abuse in 2002.

We honor her memory by awarding a $1000.00 scholarship to a high school senior in each of our three high schools who has overcome what life has thrown at them and persevered to become the best person they can be.  They were determined to make a difference in the world even with the odds stacked against them.

This scholarship is not based on grades or finances, it’s based on heart.  It’s based on having a passion for life and a spirit of rushing forward.

All scholarships are submitted with essays that determine our winners. If the scholarship recipient finishes the first year of college or trade school in good standing, they will be eligible for a second year of assistance!

The scholarship is funded by customers at the Threads of Hope Thrift Store.  We keep a jar on the counter that says “Hope Manning Scholarship” Customers contribute with their change and we use every penny to help three high school seniors chase a dream they may have thought was impossible.

The award is given to help the students with gas money, food, living expenses or other things most scholarships or grants do not cover.  These expenses are hard on a family and can make a difference with the decision to stay in college.  We want to help make dreams happen!

The House of Hope would like to congratulate the 2020 Hope Manning Memorial Scholarship recipients.

Each recipient is awarded $1,000 to assist in continuing education after graduation.  The scholarship may be used for basic expenses students incur such as gas, transportation, books, supplies or tuition. If the recipient continues their education, they are eligible for a second $1,000 to help with those expenses again.  The Hope Manning Scholarship hopes to remove some barriers so the student can concentrate on their studies and secure their future with a career or vocation.
