House of Hope and community partners come through for kids.
Each year Lighthouse Christian Camp under the direction of Michael Kilgore provides a free camping experience for under resourced children for 15 surrounding counties ages 9-18. In collaboration with many community partners, everything from fees, clothing, toiletry items, food, transportation and more is provided so children may attend this camp nestled in a cozy setting in Smithville Tennessee. When a child starts attending camp at age nine, they are invited back each year and are also invited to other functions with their family like the Fishing Weekend where TWRA provides all the fishing poles, and the Christmas Party that takes place at the camp.
When Denise Melton, Executive Director of House of Hope was contacted by the Cumberland County Camp coordinator Donna Lacey last year about the need for transportation for 80 of our youth so they may attend camp June through July, Ms. Melton contacted the Cumberland County School Bus Garage and arranged transportation and the House of Hope covered the expense. This year, Volunteer Electric Cooperative most graciously donated $500 from their Customers Share Program to offset the cost. House of Hope looks forward working with Stan Johnson the incoming Cumberland County Coordinator and Kathleen Martin the Transportation Supervisor for Cumberland County Schools next year so all or our youth may take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.
