Cumberland County Blue Ribbon Committee Presents The 19th Annual Blue-Ribbon Event

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the blue ribbon is the national symbol for child abuse prevention. This year, the Blue-Ribbon Event will be joining efforts with the free Community Love Crossville Easter Egg hunt at Centennial Park on Sunday April 13th at 2:00 pm for children up to age 12. The Blue-Ribbon Committee has added an additional 1,000 eggs to the event, along with pinwheels, balloon animals, face painting, and games and prizes. Adults will also discover local resources and find out how to get involved and become part of the solution.

The goal is to promote awareness and focus on the importance of protecting our children from abuse. Child abuse is not just a local issue; it is also a national problem. In Cumberland County alone, there were 542 reported cases of child abuse, with a total of 1355 children affected in 2024.

The Blue-Ribbon Committee has been hard at work preparing for this event, and the theme chosen is “Building Blocks for Prevention.” The Blue-Ribbon Committee is also collaborating with the Cumberland County Schools and private schools to hold a bumper sticker contest for students using this year’s theme. Local schools are invited to participate, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be given to the winners at a special ceremony with County and City Mayors. Beautiful posters, bumper stickers, and drawings created by students from past years will also be on display at the event.

Come join the fun with the Easter Egg Hunt and also learn how to better prevent child abuse.
